DESCRIPTION
Energy efficiency on the agenda at Dorval’s new covered skating rink
Solar panels installed to optimize energy efficiency at the Welcome and Services Pavilion.
The main objective of the City of Dorval’s mandate was to self-generate the energy required for the electrical needs of the Welcome and Services Pavilion, such as the lights and scoreboard. To this end, Rematek designed an optimal arrangement of panels on the building’s roof, taking into account structural restrictions and shading from the ice rink’s dome.
THE CHALLENGES
The biggest challenge was the limited space available on the pavilion roof for the amount of energy to be produced. We focused our efforts on optimizing the design of a system capable of producing 13,000 kWh on a very limited surface area. We opted for a 400W Philadelphia Solar bifacial panel, coupled to an Opsun support system with portrait orientation at 15 degrees tilt and high profile, enabling automatic snow removal.
RESULTS
We are confident of meeting the project’s energy expectations and will report on performance after a full year of production.
